As 40 teams descend on Hong Kong to contest three tournaments across four days of sevens action, series sponsors HSBC are gearing up to launch their inaugural Community Day aimed at opening up rugby to more people than ever before.

The inaugural HSBC Community Day will take place on Thursday at the Indian Recreation Club next to the main stadium and is focused at bringing the values of rugby to the local fans in Hong Kong.

As a co-sponsor of the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, HSBC have organised a full day of activities aimed at rugby fans, families and the future stars of the game. One of the main highlights is the HSBC Try Rugby coaching clinics, with free drop-in sessions for children aged five-12.

The workshops are a continuation of HSBC’s Try Rugby programme which has been rolled out in Hong Kong for the past two years, helping equip local primary school teachers with the skills and knowledge to teach the sport at a grassroots level.

HSBC ambassadors such as Ben Ryan and Brian O’Driscoll will be in attendance at the community day, which will also feature food stalls, music and local artists. The gates open at 14:00 and admission is free.
