Following the recent defence of their HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title, the Fiji men's sevens side are preparing for the sport's debut at the Olympic Games.

The men's side represent one of Fiji's best opportunities to win a first-ever medal at the Olympics and Ben Ryan has revealed an extended squad of 23 from which he will select his final 12 to head to Rio.

The team head into camp at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour on 13 June and includes both local and overseas based players that have represented Fiji in the 2015-16 series.

Former NRL and NFL star Jarryd Hayne is included having made his debut in London, with Glasgow's Leone Nakarawa and Toulon's Josua Tuisova also included alongside regulars such as captain Osea Kolinisau and Jasa Veremalua, both of whom were included in the series dream team.

FIJIANA SQUAD REVEALED

Following the conclusion of the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series in Clermont-Ferrand, the Fijiana sevens training squad for Rio has also been named.

Nineteen players have been named in the Fijiana Olympic preparation camp which starts on Wednesday.

The Iliesa Tanivula-coached side finished off the series in eighth in the standings to retain their core team status for 2016-17. The much-improved players will now have to impress the coaching staff as they all fight for a spot in the squad to Rio 2016.
