The Tackle Hunger partnership between World Rugby and the United Nations World Food Programme has highlighted since Rugby World Cup 2003 the importance of good nutrition not just to play rugby but to enable children to develop both physically and intellectually.

In November 2013, both partners agreed to an unprecedented platform of activation and awareness to help tackle hunger worldwide at World Rugby events in the run up to and throughout Rugby World Cup 2015 in England.

The Million Meal Challenge aimed to generate one million meals for the WFP school feeding programme to help nourish the bodies and minds of the world’s hungry children. A series of activations including profile-raising events, opt-in donation opportunities, social media activity and in-stadia messaging were planned encouraged the rugby family to take up the challenge.

Thanks to the generosity the rugby family and other stakeholders, Tackle Hunger’s goal of generating one million meals was not just achieved but was greatly exceeded, raising funds to generate over six million meals to help build a brighter future for malnourished children.
