Promotion to core team status for the 2016-17 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Serieswas won by Japan in Hong Kong, where 12 regional qualifiers will once again battle in 2017 for the one promotion place on offer in a separate competition.

More details on the qualifier from 7-9 April, 2017 will appear here once all teams are confirmed and the schedule announced.

Relegation from core team status will be decided at the end of the season, with the bottom-ranked of the 15 current core teams* after round 10 in London losing their ever-present status.
