World Rugby has confirmed its immediate withdrawal as a member of SportAccord following approval by its Executive Committee.
World Rugby President Bernard Lapasset’s motion to suspend membership until there is clarity regarding SportAccord’s function and role within the global sporting community and also a detailed review of SportAccord’s governance and management, was unanimously approved.
Lapasset said: “I have informed President Vizer that World Rugby has suspended its membership of SportAccord with immediate effect.
“World Rugby is committed to the Olympic movement and the principle of sport working together for the betterment of sport and society and will continue to work in partnership with ASOIF and the IOC to ensure meaningful representation of sport at all levels.”
