Throwback Thursday: Andrew's epic drop goal
The score was 22-22 in the quarter final of Rugby World Cup 1995. Up steps Rob Andrew to slot THAT drop goal.

Jonny Wilkinson’s match-winning kick in the RWC 2003 final is not the only time England’s fortunes have been transformed, for better or worse, by a drop goal at a Rugby World Cup. Jannie de Beer’s nap-hand of drop goals in the 1999 quarter-final remains a tournament record, while, at the previous tournament, Rob Andrew’s effort against Australia clinched a semi-final meeting with New Zealand. Drop goal attempts were few and far between at RBS 6 Nations 2015, but history suggests they'll be back in vogue at this year’s Rugby World Cup. So here’s a reminder of how baby-faced assassin Andrew planted one right between the eyes – and the posts – of the Aussies.

Stat of the Week

New Zealand’s all-conquering women’s sevens team has now reeled off 36 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series wins in a row to stand on the threshold of Olympic qualification. New Zealand currently lead the standings by 22 points from Canada and will wrap up qualification for Rio 2016 if they reach the Cup semi-finals in London on 16 May – something they have never failed to do in the history of the series.

Tweet of the Week

There may not have been a white touch line in sight but the claims of Ollie Phillips and his crew to have played the most northerly game of rugby in the Arctic Circle are now irrefutable thanks to this footage from the World Rugby drone.

Player of the Week

Alex Ronson (Philippines). Ronson saved the Philippines’ blushes in Wednesday's Asia Rugby Championship Division 1 fixture against Singapore in Manila with a match-winning contribution off the bench. The Philippines found themselves trailing 17-7 with 20 minutes to go when Ronson came on and transformed the tie. He kicked a penalty and converted his own try to level the scores and force the game into extra-time before going on to knock over the match-winning penalty in the second period. The Philippines will meet Sri Lanka (main picture) in Saturday’s final after they overcame 14-man Kazakhstan 35-14.

Match of the Week

Australia U20 47-31 Japan U20. The lead changed hands an incredible eight times as Australia and Japan put on a marvellous display of running rugby in the second round of the Oceania Junior Rugby Championship at Bond University on the Gold Coast of Australia.

Milestone of the Week

Over the last two years Get Into Rugby, World Rugby’s global development plan for increasing participation, has engaged 24,000 children – many of them girls – with the sport in Fiji.

News of the Week

What happens every four years ... apart from the Rugby World Cup? The Laws Review Process, of course! The Laws Review Process is essentially a health-check on the laws of the game that World Rugby organises on a quadrennial basis. The latest four-year cycle officially began earlier this week.
