Impressive full-back Jang Seong Min and winger Jegal Bin scored a brace of tries apiece to set Korea on their way to their third victory over Hong Kong in the last four years, avenging their loss in 2014 which meant they missed out on a place in the RWC 2015 repechage.

Jang Seong Min now has four tries for the tournament after crossing twice in last weekend’s high-scoring loss to Japan.

Left winger Chong Young Heung (pictured) scored try number five in the second half before Hong Kong rallied to score a couple of late tries and close the gap to seven to salvage two bonus points.

"It was truly a team performance and I think that was the difference today," said Korea coach Chung Hyung Suk. "It was truly a team performance and I think that was the difference today. We played as a team with a lot of heart but also very smartly.

"We implemented certain changes from how we played against Japan, particularly in our defensive patterns and where we wanted to play on the pitch and that helped us create space against Hong Kong."

Korea are now ranked higher than RWC 2015 qualifiers Namibia after their victory at the Hong Kong Football Club saw them gain 1.16 points to move to 58.38 points in the World Rugby Rankings. Hong Kong take on Asia's number one side Japan in Tokyo on Saturday, while Korea have a free weekend.

Namibia and Portugal both fell a place in the rankings to 23rd and 24th respectively while Hong Kong slip two places to 29th.

Trinidad and Tobago crowned NACRA champions

Trinidad and Tobago became the fourth NACRA Championship men's XVs champions in as many years after overcoming Mexico 30-16 in sweltering conditions in Port of Spain.

The Calypso Warriors led 23-6 at the break after scores from prop Samuel Roberts and captain Adam Frederick were followed by a penalty try.

Mexico clawed their way back into the contest with two unconverted tries but Trinidad and Tobago made sure of the win when centre Agboola Silverthorn sealed victory in style with a superb 60-metre run to the line.

The champions leapfrog the Cook Islands into 45th place in the rankings.

Los Condores take flight

Chile kicked off their South American Championship campaign with a comfortable 32-3 win against Brazil. The result sees them climb two places to 27th in the rankings table.

Fly-half Javier Valderrama kicked five penalties and Cristián Onetto added a drop goal before winger Italo Zunino finally breached the Brazil line on 69 minutes. Replacement second-row Francisco Hurtado dotted down minutes later to give Los Condores a convincing win.

The result places Chilein pole position to qualify for next year’s CONSUR Cup as one of the top two sides from the South American Championship. They travel to Paraguay on Sunday while Brazil will host Paraguay six days later.

Israel keep leaders in Czech

A hugely competitive weekend of European Nations Cup rugby produced a series of close matches and one draw. There was nothing to separate the Czech Republic and Israel who finished tied at 26-26 in Prague after replacement Jan Olbrich’s levelled the scores with a last-minute try for the hosts.

Israel were rewarded for holding the Division 2A table-toppers to a draw by gaining 0.62 of a ranking point, which was enough to lift them above Mexico into 56th place. In the other Division 2A game over the weekend, Switzerland's 23-20 win over Malta saw them replace the Mediterranean island nation in 39th in the rankings after a climb of three places.

Lithuania eased to a convincing 46-11 win over Latvia in the top-of-the-table clash in Division 2B. They move above Madagascar to 43rd in the rankings with Latvia dropping one place to 59th.

Slovenia moved to the top of Division 2C and up to 72nd in the rankings at the expense of Nigeria after they recovered from a 13-0 half-time deficit against Austria to win 17-16 in Vienna. The other game in Division 2C saw Serbia hold on for a 25-22 victory away to Denmark despite losing two men to the sin-bin in the final 12 minutes. Denmark were the biggest losers from a rankings perspective after dropping five places to 79th.

Bosnia are only one place adrift of Denmark in 80th after their 29-17 Division 2D win over Finland earned them 0.39 of a ranking point and an improvement of three places. Finland drop two to 92nd in the world.

Turkey defeated Bulgaria 28-26 in the other Division 2D match thanks to a last minute penalty from the boot of fly-half Ibrahim Demircan but the result did not affect the rankings as Turkey are not a member union of World Rugby.
