While Romania, Spain and Russia all improved their rating after wins over the weekend, Canada were the only team to finish higher up the World Rugby Rankings.

With Namibia dropping one-and-a-third points for their 20-0 defeat to Russia on the final day of the World Rugby Nations Cup, they are now replaced by Canada in 21st place.

The other Nations Cup fixture ended in a 28-15 win for champions Uruguay, but as the game was against Argentina XV it did not count towards the rankings.

On a busy weekend for rugby in South America both touring European sides came out on top, but Brazil and Chile gave Romania and Spain a real run for their money.

Had Josh Reeves converted Lucas Tranquez’s last-gasp try for Brazil at the Estádio Jayme Cintra in Jundiai, the World Rugby Rankings could have taken on a totally different complexion. As it was, he was unable to bisect the posts from the touchline and Romania held on for a 22-21 win that saw them boost their rating by a fraction over half a point. They stay in 18th place on 66.70 points.

Spain always had their noses in front against Chile at the Estadio La Granja in Curicó, but apart from a three-minute spell at the start of the second half, there was never more than one score between the sides in a fiercely-contested match that ended 29-22 to Los Leones.

Spain, ranked 19th, travel to Montevideo next weekend for the final leg of their tour with an enhanced rating of 65.99 points.

Russia, in 20th, are up to 64.81 points, a gain of one-and-a-third points, following their win over Namibia.

In the Asia Rugby Championship Top 3, Hong Kong made it two wins from two but were pushed all the way by Malaysia in a 30-24 victory.

The bonus point win sends the defending champions to the top of the table, level on points with Korea but with a better points differential and a game in hand, including hosting Korea in the final round on 29 June.

With six places and just over six points between the sides, Hong Kong and Korea remain in 24th and 30th position in the rankings.
