For the second time on the series so far this year, it was Australia’s try scoring machine, Ben O’Donnell who took home the DHL Impact Player award at the HSBC USA Sevens.

The DHL Impact Player was tightly contested in Las Vegas with Ben O’Donnell (52 points) finishing just five points ahead of USA’s Perry Baker (47 points) and eight points ahead of Fiji’s Sevuloni Mocenacagi and South Africa’s Cecil Afrika (44 points).

The Australian speedster notched up some massive numbers across the three days of play and showed once again that he’s got a lot to offer both on attack and defence. His footwork makes him a nightmare to defend and his work rate off the ball make him hard to beat one on one. It’s not very often you get someone who’s got that blockbuster finishing ability combined with world class defensive skills. O’Donnell’s whopping 25 carries and 21 tackles suggest he’s got both.

Consistency is key in this award and O’Donnell is consistently putting in impressive shifts. He finished the USA Sevens with 25 carries, 21 tackles, 4 offloads and 2 breaks which are up there with some of the biggest numbers on the series so far.

Not only does O’Donnell leave Las Vegas with the DHL Impact Player award, he also knocks Seabelo Senatla off top spot in the overall DHL Performance Tracker after five tournaments on the series.
