With less than two months to go until Women's Rugby World Cup 2017 gets underway in Ireland unprecedented demand for tickets has resulted in additional capacity being added to the UCD Bowl in Dublin.

The additional capacity will allow more people to attend the opening matches of the tournament on 9 August when defending champions England will take on Spain before USA play Italy and then hosts Ireland get their campaign under way against Australia.

Tournament organisers expect that additional tickets will also sell fast, and have urged those wanting to experience the excitement of a Women's Rugby World Cup to secure their tickets as soon as possible.

The pool stages of Women's Rugby World Cup 2017 will take place in two venues in Dublin, the UCD Bowl and Billings Park, on 9, 13 and 17 August and additional capacity is being added to the Bowl after all three match days sold out. The second and third match days at Billings Park are sold out and additional capacity may also be added to this venue.

Tickets provide access to all three matches scheduled for each venue on that match day and prices start at just €5 for children and €15 for adults.

World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont said: "This announcement is another glowing endorsement of what promises to be a very special and record-breaking Women's Rugby World Cup.

"With a little under two months to go, I have no doubt that this event will not just be a major milestone for the women's game, but it will be a great Rugby World Cup by any standard. It's not to be missed."

IRFU Tournament Director Garrett Tubridy said: "When we marked 100 days to go we advised people to get their tickets fast, and sure enough people moved quick. Having sold out the Bowl on all days, and Billings Park on two match days, we re-visited our plans to see how we can meet the ongoing demand. We are building additional capacity at the Bowl to meet that demand and those tickets are being released to general sale today.

"It's great to see that the tournament is capturing the imagination of the public and this is being reflected in demand for tickets. We are still looking at Billings Park but will have more news on that in the coming days."
