USA Rugby has today announced the dates of the general ticket sales for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018, which will take place in San Francisco next year. Tickets for all three days will go on sale on 20 July, exactly one year in advance of the tournament.

Booking their tickets a year out will give fans all the time they need to plan their trip to the Bay Area for what will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the global rugby year in 2018. With the iconic AT&T Park – home of the famous San Francisco Giants – providing the dramatic backdrop to show off the skills of the best rugby sevens players in the world, it is expected that tickets will disappear quickly so fans are encouraged to buy now and avoid disappointment.

USA Rugby CEO Dan Payne said: “Our plans are right on track to make Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 a tournament to remember. The ticketing programme is so important and it’s another exciting milestone for RWC Sevens that we have now set a date for that.

“With one year to go, the countdown is really on and we are pleased to announce the dates of the general sale today, giving fans the chance to save the date and plan ahead. We have seen a very strong response to the rugby community in the USA, all over North America and around the world as people plan their trip to San Francisco next year and we expect a huge level of interest when the tickets go on sale on 20 July.”

World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont said: “With just over a year to go, everything is coming together to ensure that Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 is an unforgettable experience for players and fans, delivering a record-breaking platform for the promotion and growth of rugby sevens worldwide. The vision and dedication of the event organisers is driving great excitement and enthusiasm across the Bay Area, the USA and further beyond and fans of the shorter format of the game look forward to enjoying the best that sevens has to offer.

“This will be the first time the tournament has been held in North America and I am confident it will be remembered as one of the biggest and best yet, furthering the profile and growth of the sport in the host nation and worldwide.”

Payne added: “Through Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 in the USA we want to continue inspiring people and bringing rugby to more people across the country. The tickets going on sale on 20 July will mark another important milestone on that journey and there is a real sense of excitement as the tournament gets closer. We want to make sure that the legacy from hosting the tournament is real and lasting – we want more people playing, coaching, refereeing and volunteering, watching and talking about rugby – and we are on our way to delivering that vision.”

Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of San Francisco Travel, said: “We can feel the excitement growing for Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2018. People we talk with in the US and all over the world are very enthusiastic about the event coming to San Francisco. We love hosting world-class sporting events here and we're looking forward to welcoming rugby fans for this global tournament.”
