The Great Britian Sevens training squads finished third and fifth repsectively in the first tournaments together as their preparation for the Olympics continue.

Ahead of naming a final squad of 12 for rugby sevens debut in Rio, head coach Simon Amor named two sides to compete in the first of three rounds on the Rugby Europe sevens grand prix series in Moscow.

Led by Wales captain Luke Treharne the GB Royals won their first piece of silverware, beating Georgia 15-12 in the final of the Plate, while the Tom Mitchell captained Lions finished third.

Both sides topped their pools on day one, but the Royals were beaten by France 17-14 in the Cup quarter-finals with the last kick of the match before going on to win the Plate.

The Lions won their quarter-final 36-0 over Georgia before coming undone against the hosts Russia 17-10. In the third place play-off they beat Germany, one of the sides heading to Monaco for the Olympic repechage, 28-5 with Mark Bennett his sixth and seventh tries of the weekend.
